Fans divided over Mourinho's call to axe Shaw again

Zlatan Ibrahimovic hit a fine hat-trick to hand Manchester United a 3-0 round of 32 first leg win over St Etienne in the Europa League.

The former Sweden striker scored a hat-trick to seal a 3-0 victory in the first leg at Old Trafford to leave United within touching distance of the last 16.

But in truth it was far from easy as the home side struggled against their French counterparts, especially in defence, and Mourinho stated that though their performance improved the atmosphere before the game was too relaxed for his liking.

"I had the feeling immediately in the dressing room", Mourinho said. "So the first half was hard". We'll have to approach the second leg in the same way and be clinical, which we weren't tonight.

United, who have lost once in their last 23 matches, travel to face second-tier side Blackburn Rovers in the fifth round on the FA Cup on Sunday. "Europa League is not a competition we want to play but we show it respect". While most fans were thrilled with the win, Jose only saw where it could all go wrong.

His second goal was a tap-in created by substitute Marcus Rashford and his third, with two minutes to play, came from the spot after he crumpled following a challenge by Kevin Theophile-Catherine. We had the group phase a little bit like this. In one side of his hair, he had a "6" (the number of Paul's jersey at United) and in the other he had a "19" for his own number at Saint-Etienne. "He was refereed as a star, but it is again him who scored three goals".

"It's a good rest for Herrera [next week] but I am always respectful".

"We are winning but, in a short time, everything can change", said Ibrahimovic. We are still in all four competitions. His present is good and we need him.

"You knew he'd be good because he's played at big clubs all around the world, it was never a signing that was a risk really as you knew he'd be capable of scoring goals and it's proven so".

Mourinho said: "But the important thing is the result and the important thing is that we managed a clean sheet at home".
