'Beauty and the Beast' Breaks Box Office Record Raking In $170 Million

'Beauty and the Beast' Breaks Box Office Record Raking In $170 Million

How did "Beauty" bring in so many moviegoers and what lessons can Disney learn from its success as it moves forward with other live-action remakes?

Beauty and the Beast is Disney's fourth live-action take on an animated classic in as many years.

We have Beauty and the Beast to thank for that.

The ball featured costume contests, cake and meet-and-greet opportunities with characters from the movie. The horror film, which cost less than US$5 million to make, grossed US$4.1 million.

But Evans' portrayal of Gaston's swagger and arrogance makes you desperately want to like him, no matter how nasty he gets. "We figured that by doing an event like this, not only is the movie memorable, but for the younger kids, they'll remember this event maybe for their lifetime". The 2.74x weekend multiplier is the leggiest debut weekend ever for a film topping $135m on the first Fri-Sun frame.

"Beauty and the Beast", starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, pulled in about $170 million during its opening weekend in the U.S. The film falls to an estimated $17.5 million across its third three-day frame, boosting its global number to $524 million to date.

For reference, the original animation was also a top performer in its opening weekend. Neither did the efforts of the 134,138 people who signed this online petition urging supporters to "tell Disney "NO" to LGBT agenda in 'Beauty and the Beast'". "Beauty and the Beast" centers on Belle, an independent and lovely village girl, and the Beast, a prince who was cursed by an enchantress because he had no love in his heart.

Still, the picture has all the makings of a hit that will continue to dominate the box office in the weeks to come. "It's sort of a timeless story".

More than two decades later, Audra tried her luck again as studio bosses began looking for stars for the live-action revamp, and this time she was successful, landing the character of the Wardrobe, Madame Garderobe.

She said: "I think that what's so fantastic about Josh's performance is that it's so subtle". This particular scene and song were easily my favorite parts of the movie. You can always buy it when it comes out and show them when they are older; I know I am.

While I loved the new additions, nothing beats seeing live-action version of Belle fighting off the wolves, or walking into the Beast's library for the first time or seeing her in her yellow dress.
