Blue Buffalo recalling some wet dog food

Blue Buffalo announced on March 17, 2017 on the FDA website that the company is voluntarily recalling one production lot of BLUE Wilderness® Rocky Mountain RecipeTM Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs because the product may contain high levels of beef thyroid hormones.

Dogs consuming too much of those hormones can experience increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate and restlessness, Blue Wilderness says.

Blue Buffalo says that consumers who purchased the food in this recall should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for full refund. While symptoms sometimes go away when they stop eating the food, prolonged eating can cause problems that include vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty breathing.

Affected products were distributed nationally through pet specialty and on-line retailers. However, the FDA received a report that one customer's dog had shown outward signs of similar symptoms. That dog has now fully recovered. Shoppers can check the dates on the bottom of the wet food cans.

For more information, call Blue Buffalo at 866-201-9072. However, if it turns out that your dog has eaten any of this food, check with your veterinarian. If pets that ingested the food begin to exhibit any of the symptoms, owners were encouraged to take their animals to the vet.
