In BJP's UP, BSP leader Mohammad Shami shot dead in Allahabad

Mohammad Shami, a Bahujan Samaj Party leader was shot dead last night in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad district.

According to reports, some assailants on bike shot Shami near his house and he died on the spot. The identity of the bikers not yet revealed.

In 2012, Shami had contested election against Raja Bhaiya on Kunda seat in Pratapgarh. They were demanding immediate arrest of the culprits as well as security for his family. Five bullets had been fired at Shami, police said. He was involved in a number of criminal cases like murder and dacoity.

His supporters blocked the Allahabad-Faizabad highway after his death and people have raised questions on the law and order situation under the newly formed BJP government.

The incident took place hours after Yogi Adityanath in his swearing-in ceremony as Uttar Pradesh CM vowed to improve the law and order situation in the state. Earlier when such incidents used to take place during the Samajwadi party regime, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) used to dub our administration as "Gundaraj".

Shami, former Samajwadi Party leader with a tainted past has joined BSP just before the UP Assembly Election.
