Saints Bring In Chase Daniel For Visit

The Jets' exhaustive search for a competent veteran quarterback will continue this week. He recently met up with the New Orleans Saints, and according to Adam Schefter, he's going to hang out with the New York Jets on Monday.

The news came down just hours after veteran Josh McCown left the team's facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, without a contract.

After one season in Philadelphia, in which he completed his only pass attempt for 16 yards, Daniel was released by the Eagles on March 13.

Daniel mentored Eagles rookie Carson Wentz last season and could be a could be an asset in the progression of the Jets' two young quarterbacks, Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty.

Former Jets quarterback Geno Smith signed with the New York Giants earlier in free agency. With two career regular season starts (both with the Chiefs) and 78 career pass attempts (65.4 percent completion rate), it's hard to judge what Daniel can do one way or another with any confidence.

Daniel is reportedly looking for another starting role, but he definitely won't have that with the Saints, at least for another year until Brees is a free agent.

Also expected to visit?

Daniel, 30, spent four years backing up Drew Brees before moving on to the Kansas City Chiefs and then Philadelphia Eagles.

Another obvious option is free agent Colin Kaepernick, but at this point the Jets have not shown any serious interest in the former Super Bowl quarterback.
