Stephen King reveals handsome first poster for The Dark Tower

THE DARK TOWER is directed by Nikolaj Arcel and stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, Fran Kranz, Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick, and Abbey Lee (see below). When viewed normally, the poster appears to show a world that is upside down, one where Roland (Idris Elba) and Jake are seemingly standing on nothing while the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) is at the top walking along the street.

The most eagle-eyed will also have noticed another mysterious figure in black to his side. But this leaves a strong enough impression too, and the callback to a quote from the first book, "There are other worlds than these", makes for a suitably ominous tagline.

His mission is to find a magical edifice known as The Dark Tower which is supposedly the central point of the space-time continuum.

We really hope this idea of continuing a novel saga in film catches on - "Harry Potter" is kind of halfway there.

The space between the concrete structures is shaped like the tower of the film's title.

A few days ago we brought you the news that Stephen king had seen THE DARK TOWER film and said it was "Terrific".

Circling back to the poster though, and it's definitely an inspired and visually exciting piece of work, one which hopefully signals that the first trailer for The Dark Tower is just around the corner now.

Nikolaj Arcel directs with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer producing under their Imagine Entertainment banner along with Stephen King and Erica Huggins.

"The Dark Tower" is set to hit US theaters on July 28.
