Yemi Osinbajo Expected To Visit Edo Today

The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo has arrived Benin, the Edo State capital.

The Monarch who alleged that the efforts of the state government and the Benin palace were being frustrated by Ijaw settlers in the oil-rich communities of Gelegele and Iguobazuwa over ownership of the area, begged the Acting President to use his good offices to resolve the crisis to make way for the smooth take off of the project for the benefit of all.

Obaseki who gave the assurance during a visit to the community in preparation for the visit, said he would impress it on the visiting acting president to fix the federal road, among other things, around the area.

"The people of Edo have no doubt that you mean well for the state and the entire Niger Delta region".

Disclosing the acting President's itinerary, she said, "Governor Obaseki will receive His Excellency, Ag".

The acting President has so far visited Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Imo, and Akwa Ibom States respectively.

"If they are not fully present in the areas, there is no way the oil firms will know about the challenges and difficulties the host communities face due to their activities".

While speaking, Osinbajo said the closure of the Abuja airport contributed to the cancellation of his visit to the regions.

He promised to visit oil producing regions before leaving the state.

"That is the pledge the federal government has begun; that we must treat development these communities soeedly so that they can see the development and that is why we have made the area a hub for refining petroleum products which we described as modular refineries".

"I can tell you precisely how much has been voted to several communities and there is no sign of development in those areas".

After the call, the moderator announced that the Acting President had to excuse himself to answer Buhari's telephone call. I can tell you how many of these projects are supposed to have been completed but when you look at the books they said they have been completed. That is one of the issues that we intend to address. "Everywhere I look, the story is same, many people have been deprived and corruption has deprived the people of the oil communities of infrastructural development".

Mr. Osinbajo told the people that he and Mr. Obaseki have agreed that they must find time to visit the communities.
