Action Mulan May Not Be A Musical

Action Mulan May Not Be A Musical

That success comes from a seemingly foolproof business plan built on the shared strength of their tentpole assets - Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and the string of live-action remakes pulling from the studio's catalogue of animated classics.

Another fan commented: "Be a Man from Mulan is the best Disney song of all time don't @ me".

Director Niki Caro made this surprising reveal during an interview with MovieFone, the New Zealander saying simply that there are "no songs right now" in the film, much to the "horror" of her children.

Additionally, having a (white) director of this film to reduce Mulan to a "martial arts movie" rubs us the wrong way. "But the budget and the location and the story [are] offering such scope to me for [an] incredible, muscular piece of girly martial arts extravaganza in China".

"Mulan is clearly an empowered-female story but we can also do something new in this reimagining, make it a little more muscular, stronger, with touch of Ridley Scott".

Next up is Mulan, which is possibly the most exciting of all Disney's upcoming movies, with all its potential to be a war movie epic.

So, what's with this concept of a non-musical Mulan? . While the spec script in question isn't the one being used for the actual film, it can be pretty well deduced that Disney used it to inspire the script now reported to be the official one-written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (both involved in the writing for Jurassic World and The Planet of the Apes).

The live action "Mulan" movie will focus more on action than singing. Without the soundtrack as a foundation, Caro and Disney are going to have a lot more liberty to take Mulan's narrative in a new direction. A Dreamworks film we kid, we kid. And I can't wait.

Let me just say, as a rational adult, I completely understand why Disney wouldn't want songs in the Mulan remake, and as a whole I think it's a smart idea.
