O'Gorman's Cartwright Named Gatorade Player of the Year in State

A 6-foot-4 guard with more than a dozen Division I scholarship offers from IL and other programs, Smith averaged 21.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 2.1 steals.

Moody is now a finalist for the national Gatorade award.

This morning, the Gatorade Company announced Calvin Carter of Enosburg Falls High School has been selected Vermont's Player of the Year by Gatorade for boys basketball. The NEPSAC Class B Player of the Year, Swain was the co-MVP of the Independent School League and a three-time First Team All-ISL selection.

The Mae Jemison senior and Alabama signee has again been named the Gatorade Alabama Basketball Player of the Year. Bowen is the first Gatorade Indiana Boys Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from La Lumiere School.

The 6-foot-7, 195-pound senior guard and forward led the Lakers to a 24-1 record and a No. 2 ranking in the USA TODAY High School Sports Expert Rankings. Swain has maintained a B-plus average in the classroom and represents one of the state's top academic candidates in meeting the Gatorade award's broad criteria. "But the thing I will say right out of the gate is he's a better person than he is a basketball player..."

A member of the Mayor's Youth Council in Columbus, Woodard has volunteered locally on behalf of the United Way and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Hladky averaged 23.3 points, 4.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game for the Camels and shot 43 percent from 3 as he guided Gillette to the Class 4A semifinals.

Wesson has also been named the Ohio Capital Conference, District 10 and Central District Player of the Year.
