Shots Fired Outside LA County Sheriff's Station

It remains unclear whether the shots were initially fired from inside the vehicle.

"We do have what appears to be a suspect that has shot at our personnel right at the station parking lot", said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez to KPCC. "This is another assault on deputies and we see these all too frequently now", Sheriff Jim McDonnell said.

Two armored SWAT vehicles then entered the parking lot about 1000 hours CST, with one of the vehicles approaching the SUV.

Temple Station deputies became suspicious of the man's demeanor and watched him as he went to his auto. Inside, the deputies who encountered the man were concerned with his behavior, Katz said. "It appears at this time that the suspect is deceased by way of a self- inflicted gunshot wound". She couldn't immediately provide any additional details.

At that point the suspect started shooting at deputies from inside his vehicle. They said sheriff's personnel had "engaged the suspect to neutralize the threat".

The shootout was reported at about 8 a.m.at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Temple City Station, about 15 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

A shooting has occurred at the Temple City Sheriff's Station Monday morning, an official confirmed.

A sheriff's SWAT team has taken charge of the response. No deputies were injured. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process.

Roads near the station in the 8800 block of Las Tunas Drive were closed for the investigation.

Deputies recovered a shotgun from the vehicle, and investigators believe the man also was armed with a handgun, sheriff's Capt. Steve Katz said.
