Atlanta Hawks' Paul Millsap out 3 games after minor knee procedure

Atlanta Hawks' Taurean Prince, getting his first start, drives to the basket for two past Brooklyn Nets forward K.

Jeremy Lin of the Brooklyn Nets looks on during a game against the Phoenix Suns. He is averaging 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game this season and was named an All-Star for the fourth consecutive season in Atlanta. However, all signs point to a return at the 76ers on Wednesday.

The Nets led by as many as 22 points and went on to score their third win the last four games, while sending the Hawks to a seventh straight loss. The diagnosis of the condition, the inflammation of a membrane in the knee joint, came after Millsap was examined by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Florida, and by two Atlanta specialists. He will be listed as out for the next three games and his status will be updated as appropriate. Atlanta is still in the playoff picture, but they are now tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for fifth place.

The Hawks see they could drop out of the playoffs if they don't quickly end the losing streak.

Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said Millsap has had swelling in the knee and an MRI "was clean, nothing unusual". That means the Hawks will be down three regular starters, as Thabo Sefolosha (groin) and Kent Bazemore (knee) have also been ruled out.

THE NBA-worst Brooklyn Nets added to the woes of the Hawks, scoring a 107-92 victory on Sunday in Atlanta (Monday, Manila time). Detroit now occupies the 9-seed (on the wrong side of the playoff line), 3.5 games behind Atlanta.

The seven-game losing streak matches Atlanta's longest of the season.

"I don't want to say earlier in the season we would have folded, but I don't think we would have done a great job of holding on, and holding our composure the way we did", Lopez said. He praised his starting point guard for what he did during the game that was vital as the Nets were looking to avoid a late collapse. They can realistically finish with 20 wins or more.

Budenholzer said Bazemore is "very close" to playing and could be cleared after "another good day".
