McConnell criticizes Iran nuke deal as 'windfall' for Tehran

European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini yesterday (27 March) reiterated the EU's commitment to a two-state solution and its opposition to Israel's settlements in Palestine.

Netanyahu, appearing by video at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's annual conference, said he'd had an "exceptionally warm" meeting with President Donald Trump last month.

During his campaign, Trump promised Netanyahu that he would recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel's undivided capital.

He also congratulated Trump's lawyer, David Friedman, as he was approved by the Senate to be the United States ambassador to Israel.

Trump stands with Israel "because its cause is America's cause", he said, adding that the USA was considering moving its embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

A draft statement to be put to an Arab summit Wednesday opposes plans by President Donald Trump to move Washington's embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and consider alternatives to a Palestinian state.

The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations received a rapturous welcome on Monday at Washington's biggest pro-Israel forum, where she vowed never to allow "Israel-bashing" at the world body.

GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan, rather than urging that the deal be terminated, told AIPAC that the US must "vigorously enforce" the deal and "tighten the screws on Iranian compliance".

McConnell reiterated his opposition to the deal struck by the USA and five other nations under former President Barack Obama's administration to curb the Iranian nuclear program.

Moreover, though DeLee said the two-state solution still enjoys majority approval in polls among American Jews, American Arabs, Palestinians and Israelis, that support is slipping. The adopted resolution that condemned Israel's settlement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem was met with heavy backlash from Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"We still have heartwarming evidence of Arab solidarity when we look at how millions of Arab refugees have sought refuge in Arab countries, which in return received them with the utmost care", he said.

The Iran nuclear deal, so despised by Israel and congressional Republicans, is solidly in place.

DeLee said Buskila has injected new energy into the peace movement in Israel, and she remains hopeful APN can do the same for American Jews who support that movement.

In December, President Barack Obama's administration abstained from a United Nations vote to adopt an anti-Israel resolution.

The EU High Representative voiced her satisfaction with the new U.S. administration's tack on Middle East policy so far and insisted that peace remains a "top priority" for Brussels.

She reiterated her conviction that Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria are "illegal under global law". McCarthy, a conservative who was among the first congressional leaders to back Trump a year ago, avoided an answer, focusing only on the need for assistance to Israel.

"We have a clearer understanding of where and how the White House wants to see us build", a senior Israeli official said after the two rounds of talks.
