Cubs' Javier Baez leaves game following collision

Jett Bandy homered in the Milwaukee ninth.

Davies, who pitched five innings before departing, struggled early last season as well. Brewers starter Tommy Milone was charged with four runs on nine hits through four innings with Jhan Marinez and Brent Suter allowing four runs apiece on eight hits and four free passes over a combined four frames. He returned to the lineup after taking Saturday off to rest his back.

Maddon said Baez will have a regularly scheduled day off Sunday.

"Pretty much what you've seen to this point is a good indicator of what we'll be able to do with everyone healthy, which is what you want", Maddon said before the game. "He insisted he was good, but I wasn't convinced". Since I came out of the game, I was icing it, so the swelling was going down.

Heyward wasn't in the lineup, but was available.

Chicago Cubs' Kyle Schwarber gets congratulated after his home run against the Milwaukee Brewers during the second inning of a baseball game Sunday, April 9, 2017, in Milwaukee.

The Brewers have Monday off, then begin their first road trip of the season Tuesday in Toronto against the Blue Jays.

"Just try to go up there and be aggressive in the strike zone", he said.

Braun has missed a couple games with lower back tightness, but he's ready to give it a go. "But that inning guys just kept the at-bat alive", Counsell said.

Arrieta locked in following Braun's homer.

Baez and Heyward collided in shallow center field in the sixth inning of the Cubs' 2-1, 11-inning loss to the Brewers at Miller Park as both chased a fly ball by Hernan Perez. With Jake Arrieta set to face Zach Davies in the pitching matchup, the over/under for today's game in Milwaukee is set for 8 runs. The Cubs offense as a whole had been struggling of late but exploded for 17 hits against the Brewers. He did not allow an earned run over six innings against St. Louis in his season debut.

Baez was named NLCS MVP last season during the team's series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he had 7 hits and 5 RBIs.

Hendricks (1-0), who led the majors with a 2.13 ERA previous year, made his first start of the season and gave up four runs in the first inning.

LOB - Chicago 11, Milwaukee 4.
