Kansas woman charged with murder in decapitation death

KAKE reported that Davis and her grandson went to Hilyard's home in Wichita to pick up some things belonging to her son, Jacob Gillespie III.

Rachael Hilyard, 35, is facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of 63-year-old Micki Davis, who was found decapitated in the garage of Hilyard's home, a spokeswoman with the Wichita Police Department tells PEOPLE.

Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile claimed the victim's 9-year-old grandson fled the residence and used his grandmother's phone to call 911 about the assault.

KAKE identified Davis' son as Jacob Gillespie III, who is now in jail on unrelated charges related to a March police chase.

Once police arrived, the boy directed officers to the house. Police say the suspect was found hiding in the home. She's jailed on $200,000 bond.

Responding officers called for backup after finding the victim's body in the garage.

Police said Davis had been decapitated with some kind of knife, with no other injuries immediately apparent.

Rachael Hilyard of Kansas, left, is accused of decapitating grandmother Micki Davis. "And I hope Micki's at peace".

She was arrested and charged with first degree murder at a local police station. "She was a buddy to me for 30 years".

During a brief court appearance, a Sedgwick County judge assigned Hilyard to be represented by a public defender.
