Ronaldo double secures Real comeback win over Bayern

Ronaldo - who opened his Champions League account for Manchester United in August 2005 - netted a brace as titleholders Madrid overcame Bayern Munich 2-1 in the first leg of their quarter-final.

The 27-year-old midfielder told a pre-match news conference that, although Bayern are a different team with Ancelotti at the helm, he does not think the side that put two goals past Borussia Dortmund in the opening 10 minutes of Saturday's 4-1 Klassiker win will be able to resist another high-octane start.

"We had everything under control in the first half, but didn't use the room consistently", said captain Philipp Lahm.

Cristiano Ronaldo has not quite been his usual ridiculous goalscoring self this season, with questions, slowly but surely, being asked over the Real Madrid superstar's powers waning as age finally catches up.

When Arturo Vidal headed the hosts into a 25th-minute lead, Bayern appeared on course for a 17th consecutive European home victory, but the game turned following Vidal's missed penalty and Ronaldo equalised with a fine volley early in the second period.

Real Madrid will bank on their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo when they face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena tonight. "But in the end his quality shone through and he decided the match with his two goals". "But we leave with a sour taste because we could have scored more goals".

Ronaldo is no stranger to these feats yet he acknowledged this night could have ended very differently. Football is a real bag full of surprises and in a few minutes anything can happen.

The reigning champions went on to triumph 2-1, though their hero insisted the tie is far from over ahead of Tuesday's return.

"We are playing to reach the semi-finals against a team of the size of Real Madrid and our objective is to progress". "I'm in good condition", he said.

And the Portuguese player said he has made major changes to his training regime to ensure he is injury free at the end of the campaign unlike recent seasons. I trained hard in order to be okay for this month and a half of competition. "I want to help Madrid with the league and the Champions League".
