Westbrook poised to break Robertson's record for triple-doubles

Russell Westbrook fell a rebound short of an historic triple-double, but he scored 45 points, including a late 3-pointer that helped seal the Oklahoma City Thunder's 103-100 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Westbrook acknowledged thunderous chants of "M-V-P!" Assuming he matches Oscar Robertson as the only players in National Basketball Association history to reach that milestone, it will be hard to make a case anyone else is the MVP this season.

The game between Oklahoma City Thunder vs Memphis Grizzlies is set to tip-start at 07:00 pm at the FedExForum in Memphis. On the other side, the Thunder were looking to strengthen their hold on the sixth seed, and Russell Westbrook was looking to make history with his 42nd triple-double of the season, to break Oscar Robertson's all-time record.

By halftime, Westbrook was just two rebounds and two dimes shy of history; he already had 12 points despite missing five of his nine attempts, and the Thunder were up big on the Bucks, 63-39. Now the head coach of Milwaukee, Kidd said before Tuesday's game that Westbrook will be "cheated" if he doesn't MVP this season. According to ESPN Stats and Info, it was the second time this season in which Westbrook has been one rebound shy of a triple-double. "So I think it speaks to his ability to impact games in so many different ways, whether that's scoring, rebounding or assists". I hate the narrative where players don't need rest or they shouldn't rest if given the opportunity, but Russell Westbrook has played every game this season. They have a two and a half game lead over their nearest competitor, the 42-36 Grizzlies. On just 4-of-12 shooting, Westbrook collected 12 points and set a new season-low - he got 10, though, so that's all that matters. Amazingly, this is the 28-year-old All-Star's second such streak of seven straight. He is just one triple-double shy of breaking the season record of 41. Thunder guard Alex Abrines left the game in the second quarter with a sprained left knee and did not return.

Enes Kanter scored 17 points for the Thunder, who posted their largest victory margin of the season.

Andre Roberson inbounded the ball, and with the crowd buzzing, Westbrook cranked a straightaway 3-pointer.

Westbrook finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists to help the Thunder beat the Milwaukee Bucks 110-79.

"We understand that sometimes when we tend to blow teams out we let our foot off the gas", Taj Gibson said, "but tonight we wanted to play a full 48 and really crush teams". Shattering Robertson's record would just be a personal accomplishment.
