Is Serena Williams Pregnant? Tennis Star Snapchats Baby Bump

The 23-time grand slam singles champion posted a picture of herself in a yellow swimsuit, showing off a prominent bump, on the social media app Snapchat.

Tennis ace Serena Williams is pregnant. "20 weeks", she captions the pic.

"I'm happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this Fall", Los Angeles-based publicist Kelly Bush Novak said.

The tennis champ took to Snapchat to post a photograph captioned "20 weeks" which first set the rumours of her pregnancy.

Williams and Ohanian got engaged in December after Ohanian proposed in Rome at the restaurant where they first met. Williams announced the news in a poem in the Reddit "r/isaidyes" forum.

Williams, who will return to world number one next week, would be eligible to retain her ranking under the WTA special ranking rule if she is ready to play her first tournament within 12 months of giving birth.

For one, if she is about five months along, that means she was pregnant when she won the Australian Open earlier this year.

Since her debut in 1995, Serena Williams has assembled the greatest career in the history of women's tennis. However, it is to note too that Williams withdrew from the NP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California over claims of a knee injury. This includes three Grand Slams - the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open. If Williams is 20 weeks pregnant and gives birth after a full term, she would have her child in early September, during the fourth Grand Slam, the US Open in NY.

There is recent precedent for tennis players to return to action after becoming a mother. Congratulations on the exciting baby announcement!

Australians Evonne Goolagong and Margaret Court also won Grand Slam titles after having children.

If Williams is pregnant, she will be the second top player in less than a year to take time away from the tour to have a baby.
