Pence to visit mosque in Indonesian capital

All options are on the table.

"The shield stands guard, and the sword stands ready," he said.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence praised Indonesia for what he called the nation's "tradition of moderate Islam" as he visited Thursday for talks with President Joko Widodo and officials from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The missile is probably a single-stage, liquid-fueled anti-ship projectile that was on display during Pyongyang's military parade on Saturday, according to the report. Many analysts expected that to occur during Kim Il Sung celebrations.

North Korea did test a missile on Sunday, but by USA and South Korean accounts it failed "within seconds".

"The vice president is well aware that the USA needs to do more in the wake of walking away from the TPP to message US economic staying power", Sumpter explained.

Speaking aboard the USS Ronald Reagan, a Nimitz class aircraft carrier undergoing scheduled maintenance at its home port of Yokosuka, Pence said USA intentions remained unwavering in the face of the threat posed by the reclusive North, which has conducted a series of missile and nuclear tests in defiance of United Nations sanctions, most recently with a failed missile launch on Sunday. He's the Dean of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver and former U.S. Ambassador to the ROK.

South Korea is on a list of countries Trump has ordered probed for potential trade abuse, a process he said is aimed at cracking down on "foreign importers that cheat".

"While it's obvious that the USA is trying to make the deal more advantageous to them, the review of the FTA could be negative for the Korean economy (compared to maintaining it)".

In comments yesterday to the Washington Post, Pence declared: "I think the path of negotiations with North Korea has been a colossal failure now for more than 25 years".

"As President Trump has made clear, the era of strategic patience is over", the vice president said.

"I really can't comment on the electronic and technical capabilities of our military", Pence told CNN's Dana Bash aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in Japan.

"At the president's direction, the policy of the United States will be to continue to work diligently with Japan, our allies across the region, China and the wider world to bring economic and diplomatic pressure to bear on the regime in North Korea".

Recent developments, however, have may have confused that message.

He said the Trump administration's deployment of the Carl Vinson nuclear carrier task group to waters off the Korean Peninsula again "proves the US's reckless moves for invading the DPRK have reached a serious phase of its scenario".

White House officials, however, have stopped short of flatly saying that military action was being planned.

Indonesia is on Trump's trade hit list of nations that he considers the U.S.is losing out to in trade, and US company Freeport-McMoran Inc., which operates the world's largest copper mine in the Indonesian province of Papua, is in a protracted dispute with the Indonesian government.

"America has played a certain role in Asia since 1945. that role has in the end of the day been a stabilizer", Delury said. It is his first trip to Asia as vice president.
