Rangers hang on to even series with Habs 2-2

The Habs were already 0-2 on the power play for the night but did find their game and applied some pressure, highlighted by a quickly released shot by Lekhonen in the slot and a nice save by Lundqvist on a point shot in traffic.

Both goals they scored in their 6-2 loss in Game 2 to Tampa Bay came on the power play.

The Canadiens have their work cut out for them in the lead-up to Thursday's Game 5 at the Bell Centre.

NEW YORK-Carey Price made 20 saves, leading the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference quarter-final series on Sunday.

"It's good but it's a best-of seven-series", Canadiens winger Alexander Radulov said.

The Rangers showed some much-needed Moxie Tuesday night. He sent the puck toward the net, where Nash gathered it and stepped around Price for the goal that made it 2-1.

"We had a couple of times to get the puck out and they worked hard to keep them in". With Montreal on a slow line change, Jimmy Vesey took a pass at the blue line and sent Nash in alone for a ideal shot in off the far post.

The best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final is tied 1-1 with Game 3 set for Sunday night in NY.

After spending Monday reiterating the importance of playing their brand of hockey, Game 4 was contested at the Rangers' breakneck pace.

NY will need to return to the dominating speed game they played in game one and two of the series.

"In the playoffs, teams make adjustments and we have to be ready for the next game", Julien said. Aided by a string of turnovers and a persistent failure to slow New York's forwards down in the neutral zone, the Rangers had a material territorial edge for nearly the entire period. If they lose this game, they would go down 3-1 in the series. That was enough offense to back Cam Talbot's first shutout in four career playoff appearances.

"There's no doubt that experience is a good thing to have", Vigneault had said.

While the shots on goal were 12-9 for the Canadiens after the first, with the exception of the last 4-5 minutes, NY was the better team in period one.

Montreal broke through when, off a faceoff to Lundqvist's right, Lehkonen got a pass from Brendan Gallagher and fired the puck over Lundqvist's left shoulder with 2:23 left in the period for his first career postseason goal.

Nash gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead early in the second. Also our special teams was very good tonight, two power-play goals scored coupled with the penalty killing. When we couldn't hold onto the puck and make the right play, we forced it with those long stretch passes, and they weren't there. The Canadiens limited NY to 21 shots on goal and made life relatively easy for goaltender Carey Price. The Habs can be easily frustrated, as seen in game one of the series, and NY needs to take advantage of this.

The Edmonton Oilers levelled their series against the San Jose Sharks courtesy of a 2-0 victory.

The Canadiens will likely continue to adjust their lineup to best match the Rangers.

In Game 1 on Wednesday, the Habs, finishing check after check to the delight of the crowd, dominated the first period, firing 16 shots on Lundqvist.

"It wasn't my best", said Pacioretty. "We have to play our best and see how far that takes us". He followed his performance in Game 2 at Bell Centre on Friday, when he scored the overtime victor and had three points, with an arguably better and more impactful performance start to finish in Game 3.
