Serena Williams expecting a baby this fall, rep confirms

While pregnancy may spell the end of Williams' season, it doesn't mean she won't be back on court.

Hours after Serena Williams seemed to accidentally post photos of her baby bump on Snapchat, the tennis overlord's publicist has confirmed the impending arrival of her blessed bébé.

FILE - In this January 28, 2017, file photo, Alexis Ohanian, fiance of Serena Williams, watches Williams play her sister, Venus, in the women's singles final at the Australian Open tennis championships in Melbourne, Australia.

On that point, Court feels women's tennis could still be at Williams's mercy, given no players have emerged to provide a sustained challenge to the American's dominance.

Williams won the Australian Open in January and was pregnant at the time of that success, if she is now at the 20-week stage. "Let that sink in", Twitter user @noelleharmony posted. "Because that's technically a doubles match".

Fans were shocked in December when Williams announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, as many didn't even know the pair were dating.

CEO of the WTA Steve Simon also sent his congratulations to Williams.

Tennis' U.S. governing body, the United States Tennis Association, wrote on Facebook, "Join us in congratulating the GOAT and her fiance Alexis Ohanian on this incredible news!" referring to Williams with the acronym for "Greatest of All Time".

The next Grand Slam tournament this year is the French Open, which starts in May.

While Williams won't play again this year, "she looks forward to returning in 2018", Bush Novak said.

Serena Williams just served the internet.

Belgium's Kim Clijsters triumphed at the US Open in 2009 to become only the third mother to win a grand slam, following in the footsteps of fellow tennis moms Court and Evonne Goolagong.

Maria Sharapova is coming back next week from a 15-month doping suspension, while Victoria Azarenka is due to return this summer after having a child of her own.

She did not lose a set as she swept to her seventh singles title in Melbourne, defeating her older sister Venus Williams in the final.

It remains to be seen if both Williams and Azarenka can add to their haul of Slams upon their return, but if the former could it would be yet another incredible feat in her stunning career.

Williams' 23 Grand Slam singles titles are a record for the Open era, which began in 1968.
