Five-times Grand Slam victor Maria Sharapova, who returns to competition next week after a 15-month doping ban, could also benefit if she rediscovers her top form.

Williams and Alexis Ohanian, an American businessman and a co-founder of Reddit, announced their engagement in late December.

A spokesperson for the tennis player has confirmed that she and fiancé Alexis Ohanian are expecting their first child.

Predicting how long it will take Williams to recover from a pregnancy depends on several factors, including whether she had an easy or complicated vaginal or Cesarean delivery, whether she breastfeeds and whether her baby sleeps through the night or keeps her up for feedings every few hours. If Williams is 20 weeks pregnant and gives birth after a full term, she would have her child in early September, during the fourth Grand Slam, the U.S. Open in NY.

"I have not been able to train", she said in a statement before Indian Wells.

Arguably one of the most successful Tennis player of all times, Serena has a record number of grand slams in the open era with a total tally of 23 titles.

Williams, who has played professionally for two decades, first gained the No. 1 ranking in 2002 and has held that spot for more than six years in total during her career.

Williams, 35, has not played a match since winning her 23rd Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open on January 28, when she would have been close to two months pregnant, if the caption on her deleted photo was accurate.

She has bestrode tennis like a colossus and now it looks like she may have won the Australian Open, while in the early stages of pregnancy.

Maria Sharapova is coming back next week from a 15-month doping suspension, while Victoria Azarenka is due to return this summer after having a child of her own. "I will keep moving forward and continue to be positive".

In a strange oddity in the rankings Williams will climb back to the world number one spot on Monday, despite three months of inactivity. Austin asked. "We've seen a lot of great great champions come back after having a child and it really comes down to her motivation".
