President Trump Signs "Buy American and Hire American" Executive Order

President Trump Signs

The US president added that the visa program to bring in the best of the global workforce "should include only the most skilled and highest-paid applicants and should never ever be used to replace American workers".

Trump signed the "Buy American, Hire American" order during his visit to the Snap-on Tools headquarters in Kenosha, Wis.

Trump's executive order directs federal agencies to crack down on fraud and abuse of the program and generate more reports on it, Repko says.

After signing the order, Trump asked his Secretary of State, Attorney General, Labor Secretary and Homeland Secretary to propose new rules and issue new guidance to supersede or revise previous rules and guidance to protect the interests of the USA workers in the administration of the immigration system.

Trump and other critics of the program say it is abused by those Indian firms, who - they claim - flood the visa lottery with applications and then send workers to the US on salaries that undercut their American counterparts. "Instead, they should be given to the most skilled and highest- paid applicants and they should never, ever be used to replace Americans".

The White House said the programme undercuts American workers by bringing in large numbers of cheaper foreign workers, which drives down United States wages.

President Trump has signed a new order aimed at stopping companies from sourcing foreign goods and labour.

There have been several bills introduced in recent months to reform the H-1B visa system, including a bipartisan bill from Senators Chuck Grassley and Dick Durbin who have been pushing to revamp the program for years. Because the visas were granted via a random lottery, many companies apply for far more than they actually plan on using. The executive order will make reforms to raise the bar for foreign workers and will select only highly-skilled applicants. "We have to make sure that coding is integrated into the curriculum from day one that a student enters into a classroom really".

Officials from the Department of Justice warned in April that they will "not tolerate employers misusing the H-1B visa process to discriminate against US workers".

Hannity then turned to the issue of repealing Obamacare, to which Trump Jr. said his father will not let the law outright collapse because he cares about the American people and wants to fulfill his promises. USA government data shows that almost 127,000 were granted to Indian applicants a year ago.

But IT professional Darshan Srinivasan, who has visited the USA and other countries for onsite projects, said the order has come as a blow to workers in the sector.

Meanwhile, some USA lawmakers said the executive order signed by Trump calling for a review of H-1B visas was too little and too late.

The World Bank data showed the US was the second largest source of remittance for India in 2015 with Dollars 11 billion almost 16 percent of the total inflows. Ironically enough, the man who has continuously railed against other companies for taking jobs away from USA citizens has had many of his own products made overseas. A Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu report in the Livemint says the number of Indian in United States looking for jobs in India went up by 10-fold between December and March. "Under such circumstances, the U.S. will block visa applications seeking low wages", said Joshi.
