Russia, US in spat over United Nations condemnation of N. Korea

From the wind-swept deck of a massive aircraft carrier, Vice-President Mike Pence on Wednesday warned North Korea not to test the resolve of the USA military, promising it would make an "overwhelming and effective" response to any use of conventional or nuclear weapons. President Donald Trump's claims that it had been heading to the Korean peninsula were initially dismissed, then later confirmed. But he told the sailors, "as all of you know, readiness is the key".

In reality, President Trump has vowed to stop the Kim regime from acquiring the capability to fit a nuclear warhead onto a missile that can reach the U.S. Kim received a possible boost in early 2017: South Korean President Park Geun-hye, who favoured strong action against his regime, was removed from office and a leading candidate to succeed her said he would hold direct talks with Kim. That calculation could change if China views a unilateral US military strike as credible - a prospect pushed by Trump officials after the April 6 missile attack on Syria, which he disclosed during dinner with Xi.

On Sunday, North Korea attempted to launch another missile, but failed, according to the data of the United States air forces - the missile exploded nearly rights after the launch.

That's not all, North Korea also regularly threatens Japan.

North Korea has been threatening to destroy Japan, South Korea and the United States if the allies provoke tensions in the Korean peninsula.

Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss an intelligence matter, said the missile was a Scud variant that the USA calls a KN-17.

"China's position on opposing a nuclear-capable (North Korea) is firm, clear and consistent", Lu said.

Abe said that it was a "matter of paramount importance for us to seek diplomatic efforts as well peaceable settlements of the issue".

US House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said during a visit to London the military option must be part of the pressure brought to bear. But it remains unclear what might come next. Trump has harshly criticized a similar deal China helped broker between former President Barack Obama and Iran.

Pence said Trump was hopeful China would use its influence in the region to pressure the North to abandon its weapons program.

North Korea's state television aired a show which ended with a mock-up video of missiles engulfing the United States in flames.

China made a plea for a return to negotiations.

There is little bit of cosying up happening between the U.S. and Beijing.
