Samsung has started firmware development for the Galaxy Note 8

Late sales of Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge might have gone some way to stemming the Galaxy Note 7's shortfall, but it's Samsung's semiconductor business that's been bringing home the most bacon recently: rising price and demand for DRAM and NAND flash have sent its profits soaring.

Investors and analysts expect Samsung to report its best quarterly profit in April-June and regain its global market leadership due to the new Galaxy S8 smartphone.

Lee was arrested in February and appeared in a Seoul court on Friday. Previously, the smartphone business was the company's main contributor.
