Derek Jeter: "Absolutely nothing" to report on Marlins ownership bid

Derek Jeter:

On Sunday, Derek Jeter joined the likes of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Reggie Jackson by becoming the 22nd New York Yankee to have his jersey retired. "De-rek Je-ter! De-rek Je-ter!", Jeter had the honor of unveiling his No. 2 plaque in Monument Park. We all know that Derek Jeter played the game fair and it has been written many times about that respect and how everyone wanted to be the next Jeter in NY or with another team.

Sunday finally became the day Yankee fans had been predicting and expecting since the turn of the century; Derek Jeter taking his rightful place in amongst the Yankee legends in Monument Park.

Jeter's records with the team include but aren't limited to five World Series championships, an 11-year run as team captain, 14 All-Star games, 3,465 hits and numerous awards. Jeter personally picked his ceremony to be on Mother's Day so he can celebrate it with his mother, father, sister, nephew, grandmother, and his pregnant wife, Hannah.

Former teammates Mariano Rivera, Paul ONeill, Tino Martinez, David Cone and Hideki Matsui also were on hand.

"They were here for his last game here, and if you had to write a book, I'm sure that's how it would end", Springer smiled. "And the reason why I say that is because I got a chance to play for a first-class organization and in front of the greatest fans in the history of sports". "Thank the Good Lord for making Jeter a Yankee", said one. Alex Rodriguez was not — spokesman Ron Berkowitz said A-Rod was in Miami, spending time with his mother and daughters. The Yankees had just retired his iconic No. 2. "Every kid growing up in my time always followed Jeter", Castro said. "He's never told me that personally, but I've heard that he's said it and I appreciate it if he thought that much of me to give me the number 2". "When you have this dream of playing baseball and playing for the Yankees, having your number retired is never part of it".

The Bush-Jeter group is trying to buy the Marlins. "I think sometimes people get ahead of themselves, and there was a story that got way ahead of themselves a few weeks back". If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article. But more importantly for embracing me since Day 1.
