President Trump to embark on first foreign trip as president

The president's first stop will be in Saudi Arabia, before continuing to Israel, Italy, Vatican City and Belgium.

In advance of the president's trip, White House national security adviser H.R. McMaster outlined in a news conference last week, the administration's priorities for Trump's worldwide debut: "First, to reaffirm America's global leadership".

Trump had unsuccessfully sought for the trip to be shortened from nine to five days after expressing "dread" over its length, the Times reported earlier this week.

The official said that in Saudi Arabia, Ivanka Trump will take part in a roundtable discussion with Saudi women about women's economic issues.

"Among them are suggestions to compliment Trump on his election win, and compare him favorably to former President Obama; not to expect him to know your country's history or hot-button issues; and make a short presentation tailored to his attention span, and don't try to bring up a long list of issues".

In Israel, Ivanka Trump - who converted to Judaism when she married husband Jared Kushner - will visit the Western Wall with the president.

Given the challenges Trump's administration is facing in America, how much can Trump accomplish during his trip overseas? Many White House aides have been hoping the trip will provide an opportunity for the young administration to refocus. She still owns the brand, which could be boosted by her high-profile stint at the White House.
