Trump asked Comey when he would dispel investigation rumors

Comey, who noted the request in a memo, was sacked by Trump on 9 May.

House oversight committee chairman Jason Chaffetz said Tuesday that if a memo FBI Director James Comey wrote detailing President Donald Trump's request to end an investigation exists, then his committee is willing to issue subpoenas to get it.

President Trump awoke in paranoia Thursday morning with a defensive tweetstorm about the probe into his alleged Russian Federation ties - contradicting reports that he calmly received news of a special counsel taking over the investigation.

The Senate Intelligence Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform have invited Comey to testify about the FBI investigation into Russian meddling and any ties to Mr. Trump's associates, as well as the events surrounding his ouster.

Despite knowing of the investigation, Trump appointed Flynn his first national security adviser. Not only did he remain loyal to President Trump, he indicated he and the president were still in communication.

Reporters pressed the Colombian president to comment on Trump's "America First" policy and the proposed southern border wall, but Santos sidestepped controversy by praising cooperation with the U.S. in ending the decades-long conflict in his country.

In another message, he added, "This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!"

"It was part of my view that the president of the United States, who is above the attorney general in the hierarchy, absolutely had to stay out of any criminal matter whatsoever", Eggleston said.

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller, who served under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, will lead that investigation.

Democratic Senatr Al Frankens said that appointing Mueller is an important step that will hopefully help restore the public trust and result in a thorough and comprehensive investigation.

Rosenstein, the No. 2 Justice Department official, named Mueller amid mounting pressure in Congress for an independent investigation beyond existing FBI and congressional probes into the Russian Federation issue.

But while some members of Congress have called for outside investigations and deemed the memo a possibly impeachable offense, Louisiana's Republican delegation members said it was too early to make that call.

Buried in the Times report is a note that Trump asked Comey to consider imprisoning reporters for publishing classified information. There may be a day when it's no longer politically feasible for Republicans to stick with Trump, but it has not arrived, even though some Republicans are warning that their agenda will stall if the White House doesn't put some of the questions behind it. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. "We need a law enforcement professional, not someone who's run for office before", she said.

Burr told reporters Thursday about the response from Flynn's lawyer.

Amash replied "yes" when asked if the allegations against Trump would warrant impeachment.

"Trump feels really, really, really, bad about firing him, and he genuinely thinks if the investigation is over Flynn can come back", said one White House official.
