Twin bomb blasts rock university of Maiduguri in Nigeria, 1 dead

Three suicide bombers on Friday detonated explosives inside a university campus in Nigeria's northeastern state.

A student leader in the university, Comrade Abu Hanifa Babati confirmed that one of the explosion occurred around BOT Hostel which is a female hostel.

"There were multiple suicide bombings at University Of Maiduguri where three male suicide bombers were killed", according to a short statement by the country's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). "Three university security personnel reported injured".

"The other two bombers detonated their near a construction site also within the proximity of the University premises, killing themselves alone". The first explosion was heard at about 11:00pm while another bomber detonated at about 12am.

In an electronic message issued by Borno police public relation officer, DSP Victor Isuku to newsmen in Maiduguri on Friday confirmed that three university security guards were injured in a bid to stop the suicide bombers.

The SUG President said one of the suicide bombers was shot by a soldier around the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which led to the detonation of the bomb. It was the fourth attack on the school since January. Scene visited by EOD personnel and normalcy has since been restored.
