Celtics to pick first overall in 2017 National Basketball Association draft

Celtics to pick first overall in 2017 National Basketball Association draft

Even though the Celtics will play in the Eastern Conference finals this season, they have a 25 percent of landing the No. 1 pick.

According to the report, Jimmy Butler and Paul George have been on the radar of the Celtics for some time now.

The whole situation stems from a 2013 trade in which the Celtics sent Pierce, Garnett, and Jason Terry to Brooklyn as the Nets tried to build a star-packed team to rival the Miami Heat. The team will still give its 2018 first round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers, which means that tanking will no longer be beneficial for the 2017-18 season.

Bledsoe is coming off his best season as a pro where he posted career highs in points (21.1) and assists (6.3) per game in 66 games before being shut down in March as the Suns tanked for a higher draft pick.

"Pretty wonderful - all one great feeling of Celtic pride right now", said Wyc Grousbeck, a Celtics co-owner, who basked in the spotlight of the annual game show proceedings on Tuesday as he stood alongside Johnson and Embiid. Utah's hopes of retaining Hayward became more hard Thursday, as Hayward's absence from the All-NBA teams means the forward can't sign a super-max contract with the Jazz.

The Boston Celtics and Lakers earned the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks, respectively.

Of course, the Celtics don't have to oblige. For a team completely lacking in guards and perimeter shooting, a very guard stacked draft is the ideal way for them to address their needs.

Fultz, out of Washington, and Ball, out of UCLA, are the draft's top two point guards. With the 7th pick, Dennis Smith Jr., D'Aaron Fox and Frank Ntilikina will all likely be available if they want to select one. The Celtics, who begin the Eastern Conference finals against the Cavaliers on Wednesday, earned the No. 1 spot during the National Basketball Association draft lottery in New York City. Wojnarowski said. "Boston could possibly know closer to the draft where they stand with Hayward, but I think Danny Ainge has not gone "all in" with this group yet".

Their victory made it three straight years the team with the best odds has won the lottery, after going the previous decade without a victory.

After the lottery ended, Pierce wrote on twitter: "And look what I leave behind for the Celts on my way out #1 pick". "I wish we would have gotten the No. 1 pick, but we trust the process and it's going to be exciting to see what we're going for". We're excited. No. 2 is good. In the 2015 NBA Draft, they selected Jahill Okafor with the third overall pick.
