Iran arrests 7 more persons linked to Tehran attacks

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Thursday condemned the terror attacks in Tehran a day earlier and sent a message of condolences to Iran's President Hassan Rouhani.

Ahmad Fazelian, with the Justice Department of Iran's Alborz Province, said on Saturday that the eight were accused of having provided backup for the five terrorists who carried out the two terrorist attacks in Tehran on Wednesday.

Iranian authorities have arrested eight suspects for allegedly supporting the ISIS-claimed attacks on Iran's parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini that killed 17 people in Tehran, the state-run IRNA news agency reported tonight.

The unprecedented assault in the highly controlled Shi'ite Muslim country was claimed by the Sunni militant Islamic State group.

In this author's opinion, the threat by ISIS, or what will remain of it as an underground terrorist network, to Iranian territory and interests will grow after ISIS is defeated militarily.

Syrian President Bashar Assad offered condolences to his Iranian counterpart Hasan Rouhani over the terrorist attacks which hit Tehran on Wednesday.

On Friday, Iranian authorities arrested 41 people in connection to the Tehran attacks, the authorities could identify only one attacker, Serias Sadeghi.
