UFC stars excited about McGregor vs Mayweather fight

After months of speculation, the fight between boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC star Conor McGregor is now set for August 26 in Las Vegas.

"If the (Mayweather vs McGregor fight) happens, me against Joshua would be a great fight", Miocic said on The MMA Hour back in May.

40-year-old Mayweather is 49 wins without loss and has fought and beat some of the best names in the business, including Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and Pacquiao in the biggest fight in boxing history to date. The long discussed, highly anticipated fight will be contested at 154 pounds, over 12 rounds, and it will go down at the T-Mobile Arena.

"This is really an unprecedented event", said Stephen Espinoza, who heads Showtime Sports, which will handle the pay-per-view.

The event is expected to generate more than half a billion dollars and has every chance of breaking the pay per view record of 4.5 million buys, set when Mayweather met Manny Pacquiao in May 2015.

Mayweather last fought in September 2015, beating Andre Berto and then announcing his retirement.

It is reported each fighter could earn as much as $100m (£78.4m) from the bout, which would be one of the richest in boxing history. In May, White said that the two agreed to a fight, and they were waiting to finalize the terms.

UFC fan favorite Nate Diaz also had his say on Instagram.

"Realistically if we were just putting up a number and didn't have to take bets on it, Floyd would be 100-1", Bogdanovich said.

Correia expects it to be a tough fight for McGregor.

If we know one thing about McGregor the Boxer, it's that he'll be able to talk a good game.

Even if the media thinks McGregor will get his brains bashed in, dammit, I can't help it.

MMA Fighting reports that during a conference call in Las Vegas yesterday, Dana White spoke on the possibility that Conor McGregor might lose to Floyd Mayweather.

The two fighters have gone back and forth for almost a year regarding a potential showdown with both men previously stating they each wanted $100 million for the fight.
