Trump Is Now Under Investigation for Obstruction of Justice

Trump was reviving his claim that Rosenstein urged him to fire Comey in a memo, though Trump himself disputed this reasoning shortly after in an interview with NBC News's Lester Holt, in which he said "regardless of the recommendation, I was going to fire Comey". "They're the ones we are not winning in", he said at the Mid-Winter Ball.

Mueller took over the DOJ Russia probe after a chain of events set in motion by Trump, Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The official demanded anonymity because the official was not authorized to be named discussing the deliberations.

The news comes one day after Rosenstein affirmed his support for the special counsel, despite recent reports that Trump was weighing Mueller's dismissal.

The order from the general counsel for the transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government.

Mueller, a former FBI director who was named special counsel for the Russian Federation investigation after Comey was sacked, is investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Kremlin officials in a bid to tilt the 2016 election in his favour.

"I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" "President Trump said prior that once he gets in he's going to kick the S-H-I-T out of the enemy".

Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller special counsel in the Russian Federation investigation last month, testified to lawmakers Tuesday that he has seen no evidence of good cause to fire Mueller and that he is confident that Mueller will have "the full independence he needs" to investigate thoroughly. But Rosenstein, too, may ultimately have to hand off oversight given his role in Trump's decision to fire Comey.

Gingrich, the former House speaker whose wife is seeking Senate approval to become the USA ambassador to the Vatican, continued to defend Trump Thursday morning.

He also has millions of followers on his official Facebook pages. "Nice", Trump wrote in his first tweet.

The committee sent a bipartisan letter this month to White House counsel Don McGahn seeking an answer by this Friday.

Attorney Steve Ryan says Friday that Michael Cohen plans on cooperating "in all governmental inquiries".

The Twitter attacks came as Vice President Mike Pence hired a personal lawyer to represent him in the intensifying investigation.

Cohen has worked for Trump since the mid-2000s and was active in the campaign.

In a tweet Thursday morning, Trump, who has been putting together his own team of outside lawyers to represent him, called the Post's report Wednesday that he is being investigated for collusion "phony". He has already been subpoenaed by the House intelligence committee.

In his latest tweet, the president seemed to confirm he is under investigation for possible obstruction of justice.
