Chelsea's Caballero move disrupted by Newcastle offer, agent confirms

The London Evening Standard are reporting that the Blues, who won the Premier League title last season, have agreed a deal with the stopper.

Caballero has been allowed to leave City after the signing of Ederson, with the Argentine veteran now available on a free transfer.

However, Chelsea are also in need of a reliable goalkeeper now that Asmir Begovic has left the club, but it is obvious that Caballero would play second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge.

And, with the Northern Echo, claiming that Benitez is looking out for a new 'keeper, and could even be open to selling Darlow, it appeared that Caballero was the first name in the frame. Not coincidentally, the Mirror report that the Blues are on the brink of announcing the arrival.

The 35-year-old also had interest from Newcastle United and Boca Juniors in Argentina.

The agent of Argentine goalkeeper Willy Caballero has claimed that his client is keen on staying in the Premier League.

He told Goal: "We have some offers from England, he wants to stay in England, Newcastle is cold but pretty and the beaches in Brighton are handsome as well and easily accessible from London". "It needs be real first [before we consider a move to Buenos Aires]".

Chelsea have reportedly made their first summer signing and while supporters will have to wait until July 1 to find out who it is, there are early hints.
