Trump lawyer defends his use of social media

"As I said all weekend, there has been no notification to any of us that the President is under any investigation and as I said, James Comey has said on three separate occasions that the President is not under investigation", said Jay Sekulow, repeating an argument he also made on CNN's "State of the Union" with Jake Tapper on Sunday. Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, sent out spokespeople and surrogates with a far-fetched cover story to explain the dismissal, and then told NBCs Lester Holt that the real reason for the firing was Comeys pursuit of the Russian Federation investigation.

Comey has since said he suspects the circumstances of his firing will be scrutinized by Mueller, putting pressure on Trump's supporters to deny any illegal intent - critical to an obstruction of justice case.

Asked if exploring obstruction under Trump would be part of the probe, Feinstein said, "I think whether it includes it or not, people look for it".

"He said that if, in light of all of this, the removal of James Comey would lengthen the amount of time that this investigation would take - he thought it was in the best interest of the American people", Sekulow said.

Earlier in the week, Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy, a close friend of Trump's, claimed that the president was considering ordering Rosenstein to fire Mueller. Trump also bragged to visiting Russian diplomats that getting rid of Comey relieved him of “great pressure because of Russia.”.

"After the appointment of our former partner Robert Mueller as special counsel, we advised Mr. Kushner to obtain the independent advice of a lawyer with appropriate experience as to whether he should continue with us as his counsel", Gorelick said.

President Donald Trump, whose combative instincts are to lash out, has given his legal team a clear direction: Fight, fight, fight.

On Wednesday the House Intelligence Committee will hear from Obama Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a member of the intelligence committee, appeared on "Face the Nation" and several other Sunday talk shows on June 18, 2017. "Witch Hunt." Pressed by TV interviewers, Sekulow declared that Trump was not being investigated, then tried to walk that back, at least slightly, saying there had been no such notification. "What's being said right now is that the special counsel is looking at everything, including the circumstances around Comey's firing". The Washington Post first reported on Clarke's decision.

A member of the president's outside legal team says Donald Trump is not under federal investigation.

Now, to be fair, Jay Sekulow has an impossible job. He said the tweet last Friday from Trump was specifically directed at a story in The Washington Post about the expanding probe into Russia's election meddling.

Act III of this play concluded this morning-as Trump woke up and plugged Sekulow's latest appearance on state-run media before having some second thoughts.
