Christian Host: Philando Castile Shooting Was Reasonable

But their biggest concern is if the mayor, council and police chief are truly listening.

Sherman, a St. Anthony resident, has been integral in rallying upset community members to demand change in the village.

The mother of Philando Castile, a black motorist killed by a Minnesota police officer previous year, has reached a settlement worth almost three million USA dollars (£2.4 million) over his death.

The Minnesota city said in a statement acquired by CNN that "the parties moved expeditiously to resolve potential civil claims resulting from this tragedy in order to allow the process of healing to move forward". Last week, a $1.5 million settlement was reached in the case of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old who was killed by a white officer in Ferguson, Missouri.

Monday's joint statement said no taxpayer money will be used to fund Valerie Castile's settlement.

"We want them seats", he said directly to the village officials in the front of the room. "We're coming for your seats!"

Yanez, who is Latino, was acquitted of manslaughter and other charges this month.

Not only did a jury find Yanez not guilty, now the city is paying Castile's family $3 million in a settlement throughLeague of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust according to the Associated Press.

Immediately after Yanez's acquittal, St. Anthony said it was offering Yanez a "voluntary separation agreement" from the police department, and he would no longer be an on-duty officer.

A heated city council meeting in St. Anthony, Minn., Tuesday night had people demanding the entire council resign, as well as the police chief, for what they believe to be racial bias problems.

During his trial, Yanez, 29, testified that Castile ignored his commands not to pull out his handgun after he told the officer he was armed.

Jackson said that Castile was wrong to inform Yanez he was carrying a gun: "The moment you do that, you put that police officer on edge, needlessly".

"I ask you to remember Diamond Reynolds and her daughter tonight that this isn't over", another speaker said of Reynolds, Castile's girlfriend who was in the vehicle with her daughter when Castile was shot.

The acquittal of Jeronimo Yanez had provoked demonstrations in Minnesota and is echoed in several other controversial cases where police officers have been exonerated by the justice after killing of Black americans. In March, the office outlined goals and objectives for its assessment of the police department.

Speakers also cited the St. Anthony officials' 2012 denial of a conditional use permit for the Abu-Huraira Islamic Center in the city, which they said was motivated by religious intolerance.
