'India-US alliance to check China's rise will be catastrophic'

While Trump has 32.8 million followers on Twitter, Modi comes a close second with over 31 million followers. The US' first couple warmly welcomed Modi and they were seen exchanging pleasantries and having a brief interaction before going inside the White House.

"I will also call on King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and meet Queen Maxima", he had said in a Facebook post before leaving on his three-nation trip.

"I would like to thank President Donald Trump for his kind words about India".

Modi said there was no reason for the United States and India to be rivals, stressing that both he and Trump shared a joint desire to increase productivity, growth and job creation.

"These plans also showcase the enormous fruits of our relationships with enterprising USA partners - worth many billions of dollars over the next decade alone - together with concomitant new employment opportunities across both societies", he added.

During his address to the media, the prime minister said, "We talked about terrorism, extremism and radicalisation and agreed to cooperate on this". The Global Times report noted that the Modi-Trump meeting took place after months of "trade friction" since the US President came to power.

Pakistan, especially, has been singled out for admonition with the joint statement calling on Pakistan "to ensure that its territory is not used to launch terrorist attacks on other countries" and also to "expeditiously bring to justice the perpetrators" of terror attacks on Mumbai, Pathankot and others, putting the onus on cessation of terrorism squarely on the shoulders of Pakistan. "I look forward to working with you, Mr prime minister, to create jobs in our countries, to grow our economies and to create a trading relationship that is fair and reciprocal".

Modi also had an interaction with CEOs of Dutch companies.

He also thanked India for purchasing 100 planes from Boeing that would create thousands of jobs in the US.

'I don't think there is any need to repeat the fact that in India's economic development and our priorities for development, Netherlands is a natural partner, ' Modi, who was fresh from his much anticipated United States visit, added.

"Both India and United States of America are global engines of growth".

The designation slaps sanctions on "foreign persons who have committed, or pose a significant risk of committing, acts of terrorism that threaten the security of U.S. nationals or the national security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States", the statement read.

"I am thrilled to salute you, Prime Minister Modi, and the Indian people for all you are accomplishing together".

He was referring to Prime Minister's two-day visit to the United States during which the two leaders vowed to strengthen co-operation on terror.

Further, President trump said, both United States and Indian militaries will join together with the Japanese navy to take place in the largest maritime exercise (MALABAR) ever conducted in the vast Indian Ocean. This could not be good news to either Pakistan or the separatist elements in Kashmir. He wants India to import American natural gas and did not forget to add, like a true businessman, that the prices were being negotiated - "trying to get the price up a little bit"! India is the fastest growing economy in the world Trump said and added, "We hope we will be catching up you very soon".
