Trump Couldn't Wait to Hit Twitter After CNN's Fake News Debacle

The network also issued a formal apology to Anthony Scaramucci, Trump's transition team member whom the article linked to the Russian investment fund that the reporters incorrectly said was being investigated by the Senate.

A spokesman for the TV channel had announced that "in the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on, CNN has accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story's publication".

Thomas Frank (the author of the story), Eric Lichtblau (an editor in the CNN investigative unit that ran the story), and Lex Haris (who oversaw the unit) have all left CNN, the network made this known on Monday.

This morning President Donald Trump was on a rampage, attacking CNN for publishing "FAKE NEWS".

One day earlier, O'Keefe released a video of a CNN producer admitting the network's focus on allegations that Trump's election campaign colluded with Russian Federation is mostly for ratings, and that the network's mostly liberal audience would not have put up with that kind of treatment of Obama. Like all major news organisations, CNN is under pressure to produce scoops that draw ratings and Web traffic, and to stay competitive with the likes of the New York Times and The Washington Post, which have been leaders on the Trump-Russia story. "CNN does have some phony stories", Colbert said after reading the latest fake news claims from POTUS.

"Ratings way down! So they caught Fake News CNN cold, but what about NBC, CBS & ABC?"

When asked if he thought the Russian Federation collusion story was legitimate or all hype, Bonifield said it's "mostly bullsh-t right now".

This is probably the understatement of the year, but CNN has credibility problems.

Project Veritas, James O'Keefe's project, has video of a senior CNN producer admitting that his network's relentless coverage of the alleged Trump-Russia scandal lacked substance.

Bonifield said the Russian Federation narrative is "mostly bullshit right now".

The story was posted on the network's website Thursday and was removed, with all links disabled, Friday night.

All three journalists were highly respected and their resignations were said to have come as a surprise to their colleagues.

The Post quoted an unnamed CNN source as saying that the news organization began an investigation into the story and concluded that reporting procedures weren't followed properly.

The heightened environment may also explain why CNN went to such extraordinary lengths to address its Scaramucci story.

Deputy White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in case the video was accurate, CNN was a "disgrace to all of media, all of journalism" during Tuesday's press briefing. "Ratings way down", Trump tweeted. The law firm of one victim recently sued O'Keefe, alleging violation of a federal wiretap law. The retracted CNN story was heavily dependent upon one anonymous source.

See all of Trump's rant against CNN, including a meme he retweeted, below. "Yelling "fake news" is unfair".
