Auburn reminds coach Gus Malzahn of 2013 team

"Auburn is a place that expects to win championships and I do too. And to do that, you've got to beat Alabama". "If we can go in there and compete, pull out a victory, that would be a great propeller for our program going forward".

Auburn will be put to the test in Week 2 when the Tigers travel to Clemson.

"It will be a good measuring stick of where we're at", Malzahn said.

"I've got a lot of confidence in Chip", Malzahn said.

"We know we have more in the tank than that".

"It's good to be versatile at multiple positions and could help me in the future, but also our team had a need at right tackle", Smith said.

The head Tiger said Lindsey will have more pieces with which to work at signal-caller. "I think we have more returning starters than we've had the last 12 years at Auburn, and of course in this league there's nothing like experience". "That's been our Achilles heel, really the last two years".

"I know our players are hungry".

Auburn is the popular choice as the Southeastern Conference's top contender to knock off three-time league champion Alabama, thanks to the arrival of quarterback Jarrett Stidham, a Baylor transfer. But Malzahn isn't forgetting about White.

White has had trouble staying healthy during his carrer on The Plains.

After establishing himself as one of the best run-blocking guards in college football during the last two seasons, Smith could be gearing up for a pro training camp right now rather than worrying about another Iron Bowl against Alabama. "That is a freshman that really caught my eye in the spring. We've got the most experienced team that I've had since I've been here", Malzahn said.

But Malzahn isn't ready to dismiss his own team's chances just yet.

"It's gotten to a point where it's tough to do both, be a coordinator and a head coach", he said. "I see the hunger, I see the drive, because we haven't finished like we wanted to the past two seasons". We have the coaches to get that done. They called upon me to try to fill the role, so I'm going to do everything in my power to perform and excel.

Coach Gus Malzahn will be among today's speakers, and the chances he'll reveal the identity of his starting quarterback is somewhere along the same chance the Daily Planet will reveal the true identity of Clark Kent. Stidham offers a clean break from those struggles, and the sooner Malzahn commits to him, the sooner Stidham can win the locker room.

Welcome to Day Four of the 2017 SEC Media Days.

Fans won't have to wait almost as long as they did in 2016 to hear Malzahn announce his team's starting quarterback.

"He's a different kind of player", Matthews said. "We can't control the outside, we can't control what's going on around the country". With the ability to play another position if needed, Golson gives Hand the flexibility that he is always looking for in his linemen.

"Jarrett Stidham is a very talented young man - I think that's a common-sense deal - and what he's done since he's been at Auburn is just show his leadership", Malzahn said.

"When we went on that six-game winning streak, we felt like we had a chance to do something special a year ago (but) we weren't able to do that", he said.
