Indian equities close lower, intra-day highs for Sensex, Nifty

The wider Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) breached the 9,900-mark for the first time to record an intra-day high level of 9,913.30 points. On Thursday, the index breached the 32,000-point-mark for the first time.

Major losers in the 30-share index were Tata Consultancy Services (1.85%), Wipro (1.78%), Tata Motors (1.42%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.19%), Coal India (1.14%), and Tata Steel (0.62%).

The benchmark BSE Sensex ended the session down 16.63 points or 0.05 percent at 32,020.75 while the broader Nifty index closed at 9,886.35, down 5.35 points or 0.05 percent from its previous close.

The stock declined by 1.85 percent to end at Rs 2,398.80 on BSE. "European indices like DAX, CAC 40 and FTSE 100 traded higher".

Infosys, which reported better-than-estimated-earnings today and revised its dollar revenue guidance upward, closed 0.51 per cent lower at Rs 972.05 after gaining as much as 3 per cent during intraday trade.

In investments, provisional data with the exchanges showed that foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold stocks worth Rs 59.15 crore while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) invested Rs 279.13 crore. Sensex has jumped by 1% and Nifty by 1.3% in this given week. Both Sensex and Nifty have rallied around 2 per cent in this week. "Top gainers in NSE were Yes Bank, ITC, Hindalco, on the other hand IOC, ONGC, Infratel were among the top losers". Shares of NTPC (up 2.47 per cent), Kotak Bank (up 1.30 per cent) and Cipla (up 0.96 per cent) offered some help.

USA stocks rose overnight and Treasuries fell as oil prices extended gains for a fourth straight session and investors digested new economic data on jobless claims and producer prices. It was followed by BSE Telecom and BSE Healthcare up 0.91 per cent and 0.89 per cent, respectively.
