'Aladdin': Disney Casts Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott

Though there have been rumors about who exactly may appear in Aladdin, it wasn't until the Disney film panel during this year's D23 Expo that the actors playing the main three heroes of the film were confirmed. For its upcoming adaption of Aladdin, Guy Ritchie has been hired to tell the story of the street rat thief turned Arabian prince.

Naomi Scott is set to play Princess Jasmine, while Will Smith will be taking on the Genie.

Disney has officially found its Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie for the live-action "Aladdin" remake. He recently landed his first major role in Amazon's forthcoming Jack Ryan TV series.

Global casting calls were launched in May with production set to begin in July, but filming was pushed back to August after none of the almost 2,000 people who auditioned were deemed the flawless fit. Relative newcomer Mena Massoud has also joined the cast as Aladdin. Born in Egypt and raised in Ontario, Massoud is a relatively unknown actor with a thin resume.

Another up and coming young actor will play Aladdin himself.

Scott, meanwhile, made her blockbuster debut earlier this year as the Pink Ranger in March's "Power Rangers".
