Alexandre Lacazette scores on Arsenal debut in friendly win over Sydney FC

He may have made the briefest of cameo appearances in Arsenal's opening pre-season match against Sydney FC in Australia, yet Alexandre Lacazette showed within 15 minutes of his debut why Gunners boss Arsene Wenger chose to spend big on the 26-year-old striker.

Arsenal is coming off a very disappointing 2016-2017 EPL campaign, finishing in fifth, missing out on Champions League football for the upcoming season. They are young, just 17 or 18, so that is very promising. Unlike Ozil though, Sanchez has elite-level suitors - with Manchester City chief among them.

68 minutes and we had a mass change as Arsene Wenger switched nearly the whole squad bringing on Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mohamed Elneny, Nacho Monreal, Alex Iwobi, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Granit Xhaka, Donyell Malen, Alexandre Lacazette, Olivier Giroud, Eddie Nketiah.

He added: "He wants to play as high as he possibly as he can and I'm not sure West Ham are going to be right at the top. When I'm back in London, we will sit down and discuss the future". I hope Alexis stays but I don't know what the status is, to be honest.

Engagement: Arsene Wenger poses with Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, Graham Arnold, Tony Popovic and Sydney FC and Wanderers players. It's a huge honour and I'm looking forward to the challenge. Im still an Arsenal player for the moment so I try to be professional.

There were over 80,000 fans in the ANZ Stadium for the game against A-League side Sydney FC and Nelson, operating at wing-back, wasn't overawed by the occasion.

The Gunners had to wait nearly another 80 minutes before finding the back of the net again when new French signing Alexandre Lacazette celebrated his debut goal for the club following some good work out wide from another sub Alex Iwobi.

Former Selangor defender Robbie Cornthwaite has been made club captain at Western Sydney Wanderers, one day before their friendly against Arsenal.
