Arsene Wenger sure of Alexis Sanchez stay at Arsenal after 'positive' talks

Arsene Wenger is confident that Alexis Sanchez will remain at Arsenal this summer, despite major question marks over his future.

"Of course (he will stay)", Wenger said.

Sanchez, 28, is entering the final year of his contract and the Chile forward is reportedly holding out for an improved deal amid interest from Manchester City.

Wenger revealed that Sanchez has left him convinced he will not leave the Emirates this summer, despite refusing to sign a new contract with the Gunners. "There's not a lot to resolve at the moment with the player".

Set to return to parent club Arsenal, England global Wilshere - who has been hampered by injuries in recent years - has been linked with a move to Serie A outfit Sampdoria.

The veteran Gunners trainer also revealed he was not expecting Sanchez till the end of the month, having granted him an extended holiday to recover from his exertions with Chile in Russian Federation.

Reflecting on the rumours, though, Wenger said, as reported by the Gunners' official website: "Yes, 100% I expect him to stay. My thoughts are always positive".

"Usually you need three weeks but they will have a programme that they have to follow and can be involved after one week to 10 days, they can be in the squad and play in part of games".

Arsenal have had several offers rebuffed by Sanchez and his advisors but manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of his confidence that he can keep hold of his star man.

"But once he is ready, when he comes back, he will not be far from practising with the team".
