Russian-American lobbyist met Trump Jr to get dirt on Hillary Clinton

Russian-American lobbyist met Trump Jr to get dirt on Hillary Clinton

The development follows several days of shifting statements from President Donald Trump, Trump Jr., and various corners of the White House in which the administration sought to play down Veselnitskaya's meeting with the president's eldest son, Kushner, and Manafort, alleging that Veselnitskaya was not involved with the Russian government.

As has been previously reported, the meeting was set up by music publicist Rob Goldstone, who told Donald Trump an email chain that Veselnitskaya has "information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russian Federation and would be very useful to your father". He responded to the offer by saying: "If it's what you say I love it - especially later in the summer". He said that he learned of the meeting on the day when Veselinzic asked him to attend. He says he will appear voluntarily before the panel.

Akhmetshin said the attorney brought with her a plastic folder with printed-out documents.

E-mail chains showed that Natalia's friend (an acquaintance of Don Jr.) had promised dirt on Hillary Clinton to secure the meeting.

After that exchange, Mr Trump Jr lost interest, Mr Akhmetshin said.

BENNETT: Well, in talking to the Associated Press, he downplayed the significance of the meeting, as did Donald Trump Jr. "Because we can't let that happen", Trump said.

Caputo said he has not been contacted by either the Federal Bureau of Investigation or Independent Counsel Robert Mueller but is willing to cooperate should they do so.

Akhmetshin also told the AP the meeting was "not substantive" and he "actually expected more serious" conversation.

The HRAGIF's registered lobbyist was Rinat Akhmetshin, who took United Kingdom citizenship in 2009.

Mr. Trump, you said, you received the email "pre-Russia mania". Akhmetshin has been reported to have ties to Russian intelligence agencies, although he denies those links.

He added: "Mr Akhmetshin is a Russian immigrant to the USA who has admitted having been a "Soviet counterintelligence officer".

Caputo says he was never asked about his time in the country while on the campaign.

The Post also reported that Akhmetshin had served in the Russian military and may have worked in intelligence. He said his unit operated in the Baltics and was "loosely part of counterintelligence".

Akhmetshin also reportedly said that "they couldn't wait for the meeting to end", referring to Trump Jr., Manafort and Kushner.

There were three major bombshells revealed Friday about the Trump Tower meeting between the top echelons of the Donald Trump campaign and alleged Kremlin intermediaries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he hopes for further dialogue with his USA counterpart Donald Trump after their meeting in Hamburg earlier this month on the fringes of the G20 summit.

Alan S. Futerfas, Donald Trump Jr.'s attorney, said, "We do acknowledge there was one person - and perhaps a second - whose identity we did not know".

Browder is set to testify before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee about Veselnitskaya and others, the committee announced this week. "Opposition research is not clearly a thing of value the way money would be, or data, or hard information". "I can't think of any more in all honesty".
