Sheriff Denies Congratulating Makarfi, Rejects Amnesty Offer

The former governor of Kaduna State was reacting to a question on whether the party would sanction the sacked National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and those in his camp who took the party to court over the outcome of its May 21, 2016 national convention.

In a statement signed by his spokesman, Honourable Bernard Mikko said Sheriff needs no pardon, adding that amnesty is meant for those who go against the laws of the land. "We further warn all mischief makers to desist from trying to exploit the huge political capital of Sen Ali Modu Sheriff for selfish gains".

"We therefore view the said message as fake and mischievous and should be discountenanced as that of evil doers", the statement said.

The Chairman of National Caretaker Committee of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, stated this in an interview with reporters in Abuja on Thursday. Amnesty is a reprieve for those who have committed offence under our statutes.

Making the revelation in Minna, Niger state, the PDP chairman in Niger state, Alhaji Tanko Beji, reportedly said the decision was reached at a meeting to discuss the recent judgement of the Supreme Court.

The new leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has told warring factions to come back into the party fold as it is granting them an amnesty.

.

"The unfortunate tussle, while it lasted, saw many loyal and committed members of our great party wittingly or unwittingly on different sides of the divide based on principle and different interpretation of our Party's constitution".

The leadership of the party has announced that the National Convention of the PDP has been slated to hold in October.

He said that he would have also destroyed the party's flag in his possession.

He called on the party to reconcile with its members while also urging other parties to settle their internal problems with dialogue.
