Blues Legend John Terry replaces James Chester as Aston Villa Captain

Former Chelsea captain John Terry took over as Aston Villa's captain on Saturday following his move to Villa Park.

"Aston Villa are pleased to announce John Terry as captain", the club said in a brief statement. The goalkeeper is delighted to be back and is hoping the club can improve their standing this season and achieve their dream of returning to the Premier League.

Terry became Villa's first signing of the summer when he signed a one-year deal earlier this month, after calling time on a 22-year career at Chelsea, where he skippered the club to five Premier League titles.

Some strong performances for Villa last season showed his potential, however the United loanee was also guilty of high-profile mistakes that had the Midlands fanbase questioning him at times.

Spanish side Real Betis are reportedly preparing to hold talks with Aston Villa's Jordan Veretout. His side lost 2-1 to Shrewsbury.

The 24-year-old, however, has been involved in Villa's pre-season preparations, featuring in the 4-0 friendly win over Telford United and attending the club's training camp in Portugal.
