Lonzo Ball Has Arrived

In his first Vegas Summer League sighting, LeBron James made a decision to plop in for Lonzo Ball and the Los Angeles Lakers first round tournament game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The lead he helped the Los Angeles Lakers build while he was in the game proved to be just enough to top Dennis Smith Jr. and the Dallas Mavericks.

Somewhere out there, LaVar Ball is laughing, yapping his way to the bank.

"It's tight still, but we play at 7 (Monday), so hopefully I'm ready to go", Ball said. Wednesday, the Sixers took on the Lakers without Markelle Fultz and fell to the 103-102. They've seen everything that they needed to see from the prized rookie.

Brooklyn offerred the Lakers their toughest test thus far, as Brooklyn's starting five featured four players with at least a season of National Basketball Association experience in Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie, Isaiah Whitehead and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, all of whom scored at least 15 points on the night.

"I can knock out a lot of birds with one stone", James said. There's always guys who come before for these young players to be compared to. It is incredible to watch. Smith matched the 14 points to go with three assists and a rebound in the opening half.

Ball already made headlines in his previous game when he scored 36 while wearing Kobe Bryant's A.D. kicks, instead of his signature ZO2s. On Sunday, he wore a pair of Air Jordan XXXI's. He headed to the locker room briefly in the third quarter with calf tightness before returning to the bench. His layup with 2:29 left in the first quarter began a floodgate of misses for the Mavericks.

While Ball said it was nice to see James, the Lakers rookie said his best performance to date as a pro wasn't inspired by the fact that his favorite player to watch was sitting courtside. Johnson stood up and applauded.

The NBA Summer League championship round is set. "You can see what he is all about, and he's a victor, that's what he is".

Amusing how things work. the Lakers' last great point guard ushering in the era of the Lakers' next great point guard, as if it was meant to be. He finished with 21 points, including a monstrous dunk driving to the basket past Ball.

Come to think of it, after everything that the elder Ball has said over the past several months which launched him to infamy, he actually gives out a level-headed commentary on his budding business' holy grail. Power forward Julius Randle looks like he is in shape for the first time in his life.
