Marijuana Smuggled Into US Inside Ford Fusions Built In Mexico

Drug enforcement agents might be especially alarmed because it appears in each of these cases, a hitch arose with the Mexican smugglers' USA counterparts.

One recent shipment of brand-new Ford Fusions built at Ford's Hermosillo plant came packed with a toasty $1 million worth of marijuana.

Investigators are now trying to uncover where the supply line for the marijuana began and who was supposed to be responsible for retrieving it. The pot was shaped into half-circle-shaped packages and hidden in the area where a spare tire would go.

The marijuana, divided into 32-pound, half-moon-shaped packages, was found in 15 cars in four OH counties, according to CNN.

Silverio Balzano, the agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's Youngstown office, said this is the first time he has seen this type of smuggling locally.

The investigation also revealed that a rail auto containing 15 new Ford Fusions had their spare tires removed, replacing them with compressed packages of marijuana resembling a tire.

In all investigators recovered nine additional packages of marijuana, in four different counties. He does, however, know of similar cases in Arizona and Minnesota.

Dilworth police said the cars were transported in sealed BNSF Railway cars. "We are working with the FBI and Customs on an extensive investigation".

A CSX spokesperson told CNN that the rail company is "providing all the support we can to the agencies who are investigating this serious crime and will continue to do so".

Ford said they confirmed, "this is not happening at our plant or at our internal shipping yards".
