Scrap metal crashes onto van, but driver not badly hurt

A weird incident on an Orlando-area highway sent a man to the hospital Saturday morning.

A man miraculously survived after a large piece of scrap metal fell from a truck that lost control and overturned in Florida on Saturday, crushing his van under the overpass.

That pipe, several feet long, fell onto the minivan on the ramp below, smashing the windshield, roof, driver's door, and passenger door behind Escobar.

The driver of the truck, 33-year-old Antonio Santiago Wharton of Kissimee, lost control of the semi and hit a guard rail, causing the semi to flip on its side.

Amazingly, the van's driver suffered only minor injuries.

"To be honest, I thought that there had been a death", said the employee of the towing service to the media.

The family believes Jesus was with Escobar during the accident. "But they came out and said, 'Nope, he's only got scratches.' It's insane".

Local police gave the truck driver a ticket for careless driving.
