Shahid, Alia win top honors at IIFA 2017

Sushant is one of the outspoken actors in Bollywood, but sometimes his blunt response backfires.

Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were named Best Actors at the 18th edition of the IIFA Awards, for their remarkable work in "Udta Punjab" on Saturday.

Some of the other winners include Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury who was given the award for Best Director for his film "Pink".

"#Udtapunjab double whammy. Tommy and Mary Jane".

The Best Picture honour went to Sonam Kapoor starrer "Neerja", based on the real life story of Neerja Bhanot, an air hostess who lost her life while trying to save others on a hijacked flight at Karachi. The lead actress in the film, Taapsee Pannu, was chosen to be the Woman of The Year and AR Rahman was honored with the Special Contribution to Indian Cinema award.

A mysterious tweet from Sushant Singh Rajput is being interpreted by social media as a case of sour grapes after Shahid Kapoor won Best Actor at the IIFA Awards over the weekend. "Thanks team IIFA and "Udta Punjab"," he tweeted.

Film industry veterans Anupam Kher and Shabana Azmi won the best supporting actor and actress award for M S Dhoni: The Untold Story and Neerja, respectively.

He is laughing at IIFA for not getting best actor award.ek mauka mila tha wo bhi gaya.

The music category of the award show was dominated by Ae Dil Hai Mushkil with Pritam, Amitabh Bhattacharya and Amit Mishra winning awards.

Actress Katrina Kaif took the stage and grooved on songs like "Afghan jalebi", "Galti se mistake", "Dhoom machale" and "Kaala chashma".

Unlike previous editions, no global stars were part of the IIFA celebrations this year.

Apparently, Shahid yesterday shared his happiness by posting a boomerang video on his Instagram account with Alia Bhatt in which they can be seen congratulating each other for their unbelievable victory.
