Gearbox Software announces a new 1v1 shooter-card game hybrid

Gearbox Software, the acclaimed developer behind the games Borderlands and Battleborn, has announced their latest project, codenamed Project 1v1.

Project 1v1 is described as a "competitive first-person shooter that combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game".

The technical test will include three game modes: Ranked, Challenge, and Arena.

Very odd concept, and unfortunately there is little else for information about the game at this time. The developer is looking for a small amount of players to test the game's online infrastructure, as well as receive feedback from fans in order to tweak and improve it as they develop it.

Registration for the test is available on the official website, but be warned that all game servers will be based in North America, meaning worldwide players may have some issues with latency.

Details on the project are now pretty scarce, but we do have word that a short Closed Technical Test will be held this summer.

The project is being called "Project 1v1" for now and will get an official unveiling at some point in the future. As the name suggests, Challenge lets players challenge a friend to an unranked match. In Ranked, players will be matched up against opponents based on their ratings and can earn experience and crates containing new cards.

Emails for the first technical test should start going out soon.
